Fellside Sauna

We are Laura and Joe, a Cumbrian couple who love being active and getting out into nature. Whilst living in Wānaka, New Zealand, we immersed ourself into the lifestyle that prioritised adventure and would fondly refer to the place as “one big playground”.

It was during a winter season in Wānaka that I (Laura) first came across mobile saunas. I was already into wild swimming, and loved the mental challenge of the cold immersion but secretly hated not being able to warm up again afterwards. So when I was invited to try a wood-fired sauna on the lake shore after a day of skiing, I was completely blown away and the idea of building one for the Lake District was planted.

In the summer of 2024, we worked hard to create our first little sauna on wheels. We had no idea whether our little corner of the world would embrace sauna culture or not, but we have been so fortunate to build up an amazing customer base made up of regulars and visitors to the Lakes alike.

Growing Fellside Sauna

At some point in January 2025, we floated the idea of a second build and decided to ride the wave of excitement and commit. My aim with this build was to incorporate all of the good bits of our first one, and emphasise them! We have one massive window, and a huge burner.

Then, in November 2025, we were preparing to launch our little sauna at Lingholm Estate on Derwentwater when we wondered “What if it is amazing there? What about Waterside in the camping season?” and the crazy idea of a third sauna was joked about at the same time I saw another sauna company selling one of their gorgeous horse-box saunas.

Ultimately, we decided that we should give it a go - we now have an amazing team (who we know you all love), and the support of three gorgeous lakeside locations.
